SHIKAnoYU history

This land is home to a famous hot spring where wild deer used to soak in to heal their wounds. Named "SHIKAnoYU (Deer Hot Spring)" by Iwamura Michitoshi, the first governor of Hokkaido, it is the only hot spring given a specific name in Jozankei. The hot water gushing from directly below the large communal bath is known to be gentle on the skin and keeps the body warm long after the bath. In the evening, the illuminated mountain stream offers an otherworldly view with steam rising from the hot springs.
